Comice

Comice is the reason the atelier exists. Étienne Ormelin drew it in 1934 for a pear merchants’ guild hall — comice is a pear, and the guild wanted its fruit somewhere in the room without anyone quite noticing. The lower tier’s pendants are pear-cut. Nobody has ever remarked on it unprompted.
Three tiers, 214 cut pieces, all hung on brass pins rather than wire. Pins are slower to fit and far slower to make, but a pinned chandelier can be taken apart and rebuilt on site by two people in an afternoon — which is how every Comice has survived ninety years of house moves.
We still cut from Étienne’s original card templates, held in the archive drawer. Six of the twenty-two templates have been replaced due to wear. The rest are his.
