Verrine
Nine hundred drawn rods falling in a single unbroken sheet.
Verrine began as a mistake. In the winter of 2018 a rack of cooling glass rods was knocked at the shoulder and settled into an uneven curtain — longer at the centre, ragged at the edge. Séverine kept the rack exactly as it fell and spent the next eight months learning to repeat the accident on purpose.
Each rod is drawn by hand from a single gather, which means no two share a diameter. Held to the light the curtain reads as water rather than glass: the variance scatters the beam instead of splitting it, so Verrine throws almost no rainbow. What it throws is a soft vertical wash down the nearest wall.
The suspension is a flat brass ring, 4 mm thick, machined in one piece. There is deliberately no canopy escutcheon — the cable is meant to be seen.
